At the end of last term, we took part in sponsored event to raise funds for Spencer Contact. This charity collects donated items of furniture and repairs, cleans and restores them so they can then be distributed and delivered to families in need within and around Northampton. Representatives from the charity came in to explain this to the children during an assembly in which we launched the sponsorship event with theme: ‘I am going to sleep on the floor so no one else has to’. Each child then sought sponsorship for sleeping on the floor on the night of Friday October 18th. We were delighted with how many children took part and to have supported a charity that makes a difference in our own locality. Our pupils raised an incredible £1438.80! Thank you to everyone who took part and to those who sponsored the children so generously.
The term is flying by and we seem to be as busy as ever!
Thank you to everyone who came to the curriculum evenings. The PowerPoints for each year group have now been uploaded to our homepage. If you were unable to attend the evenings and would like some more information, please do not hesitate to ask the class teachers or me. The reception and nursery evening will take place next Wednesday (9th) 7pm at Yardley.
As you are aware, we have recently held our school council elections. The children produced some amazing manifestos and enjoyed replicating the parliamentary process in their voting. Thank you to all who produced a manifesto and well done to those who were elected.
The newly formed council will shortly be writing to you about our next Charity event on October 18th. I mentioned this at the curriculum evening at the beginning of term so many of you are already aware of it. We are working closely with a local charity called Spencer Contact who support families in difficulties by providing and recycling basic furniture items. The idea is that, for one night (Friday 18th October), children are sponsored to sleep on the floor to raise money to support people in and around Northampton who do not have a bed for the night. The slogan ‘I have slept on the floor so other people do not have to’ is the basis of the sponsorship. A representative from the charity will visit on Monday to talk to all the children in an assembly; we will then issue the sponsorship forms.
We hope as many of you as possible are able to take part!
We have only been back in school for a few weeks but they have been very busy! It was great to see so many parents and carers at our Curriculum Information Evenings and we hope to see our Year 5, 6 and Reception parents and carers at their sessions shortly.
Last week, we held our first Federation Sports Day at Yardley Hastings Primary, giving the children an opportunity to make new friends, see old friends and compete in a number of group events.
Our School Council elections have taken place this week and are really looking forward to Languages Day. Thank you to all of you who will be joining us and sharing your language skills with the pupils and staff.
Applications for Reception places for September 2020 are now open through Northamptonshire Council Council. We are holding an Open Morning from 9.30-11.30am on Thursday 10th October, not just for prospective families, but also for those already within our school community. If you know of any families with children due to start school next year, please tell them about our Open Morning and if they are not able to join us on that day, they are welcome to get in touch to arrange an appointment at another time.
We also have some places in our Nursery year groups. These are available from the funding block after a child’s third birthday. Please give us a call on 01604 890330 regarding Nursery or Reception places. We would love to hear from you!
