Curriculum Evening 11th September

Thank you to all of you who came to the curriculum evening on Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so many of you. Feedback has been extremely positive and I am really pleased that you found it useful. As many of you commented, we have spent a lot of time ensuring that our vison, aims and intent address the needs of our children and provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to support their learning journey. The PowerPoint from the evening and the associated resources are now on the website.

I really hope that you see all that we shared in practise when you visit or come to parents evening. Please let us know how your children are responding to our teaching. I had some feedback today from a parent whose child, in year one, had told her how he was going to try to be more resilient and have a go an activity that he had previously found difficult!

In answer to the question about the accumulation of vocabulary, please see the insert below which was presented on some training I attended. I hope this clarifies the situation!

If you have any further questions about what we discussed please do let me know.

Have a lovely weekend.

Welcome back!

Welcome back!

I hope you have all had a super summer holiday although sunny weather now seems a bit of a distant memory! The children have all settled in really well and have started the new term with lots of enthusiasm and energy. A very warm welcome to our new parents and children who we hope will be very happy with us here at Denton.

As I wrote earlier in the week, over the past few months, we have been working very hard on redesigning and refining our curriculum and we are looking forward to sharing this with you our Curriculum Evening on Wednesday (7pm at Yardley). Look out for the letter your children have written to you today inviting you to attend. I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

We are all very excited about this year and the range of events experiences we have planned. You should now have received a list of dates. Our sporting fixture list will follow as will a letter about clubs.

Have a lovely weekend!

Have a lovely summer break!

We have finally made it to the end of term after an extremely busy and successful year!

As well as holding another very successful Sports Day, the last few dates of term were very much characterised by ‘performance’. This started with a ‘teatime’ concert from the Ashby Orchestra to parents, friends and relatives having played to the whole school earlier in the day. The children have only been playing together for just under 2 years and go from strength to strength under the amazing guidance and tuition of Pam Dyson. I cannot thank her enough for the time and effort she puts into this. The children celebrated the end of the year with well-deserved tea and cake!

Our end of year performance of ‘The Key Master’ involving all but the youngest members of our school was amazing and probably the best yet. Our standards of performance in terms of both speaking and singing just get better and better.

There was no better example of this than Maple Class performance on the last Friday of term. Their performance of ‘The Train that lost its Whistle’ was truly outstanding; to see so many young reception children sing solos was incredible. It was so lovely to see the clear enjoyment the children showed in taking part, to the extent that they carried on afterwards whilst the parents were enjoying the refreshments (also produced by the amazing Maple Class)!

Sadly, we have had to say goodbye to our Year Six. They have been the most amazing group of children and, whilst they are all ready to move on, we are sorry to lose them. They have all worked incredibly hard and achieved the best SATS results the school has seen for many years. Their final assembly was very moving and the impromptu, heartfelt words from Tom summed up their maturity, camaraderie and care. Keep in touch, all of you; I look forward to hearing about your continued success at Wollaston!

I hope you all have a lovely summer break and that the warm weather continues. I look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready for another exciting year on Wednesday 4 September.

PS: Don’t forget to ‘save the date’ of 11th September for our new curriculum launch, 7pm at Yardley!
