Welcome to our Oak Class page. This is where we share our news and topics for this school year.

Autumn term:


In reading we will be exploring new vocabulary in a variety of texts including non-fiction, narrative and poetry.

In our topic lessons we will be reading Toys around the world by Joanna Brundle.


In our English lessons this term we will be focusing on writing stories and working on developing our use of punctuation in sentences, such as using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

In our topic lessons we will be writing a set of instructions for our favorite toy or game and writing a letter trying to persuade a friend to buy a toy we will be making.


In maths we will be focusing on place value within 20 and addition and subtraction within 10.

In our topic lessons we will be learning different shapes toys and games are made up of. We will also practice using money to pay for toys in our own class toy shop.


Spring Term:


In our reading this term we will be applying our phonic knowledge when reading books and maps. We will also be re-reading books to build on our fluency.

In topic we will be learning to read basic maps and directions.


In our writing this term we will be developing our narrative writing by working on using adjectives and similes. We will continue to be looking at using correct punctuation in our sentences.

In our topic we will be writing a recount of a walk around Denton village. We will also be writing an acrostic poem for the village.


In maths this term we will be looking at addition and subtraction up to 20. We will also be looking at measurement of length and height, and weight and volume.

In Topic we will be describing position and direction when using simple maps.
