Why Choose Denton Primary
Rural yet accessible - Wrap around care - Clubs - Supportive & nurturing - Ease of transition - Nursery Places
Denton Primary School is set in a peaceful and beautiful location in the south of the county. It boasts many of the benefits of other rural schools, serving small communities but one benefit it has over some other village schools is that its location is readily accessible to families who may not live within the catchment area. Denton village is set aside the A428 and only 6 miles from Northampton, 7 miles from the Weston Favell area, 5 miles from the Brackmills Industrial Estate and 6 miles from Olney.
Our school day runs from 8.55 am until 3.30 pm but we recognise that many parents are working and may need their child to have a friendly and fun place to be either side of the school day. We have a Breakfast Club which runs from 8.00 am where your child could play with friends and get ready for their day. Our After School Club is also available from 3.30 until 5.30 pm, giving your child the opportunity to have a small meal (depending on the time they attend until) and enjoy some fun activities. Each Club operates its own charging policy.
There are also opportunities for the children to join other after school activities or lunchtime sports clubs run by external companies. For children in Year 2 and above, they might like to join the lunchtime Hotshots Basketball Club where they can learn and perfect their skills and maybe compete in a school team at local tournaments. The school also runs a range of after school and lunchtime clubs which currently include Yoga, Art, Guitar and Zumba.
As well as the exciting and varied clubs already mentioned, the children will also be offered the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument through the wonderful teachers at Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust. Pupils may audition for lessons at an appropriate age for the chosen instrument and lessons are invoiced once a term.
We feel it is important to celebrate the children's achievements and every week we hold our Achiever's Assembly. Each class teacher nominates a pupil who has achieved something special in the week and we also share other achievements from in and outside of school whether it be a school team who took part in a local tournament or individuals who have brought in their swimming certificates, sports trophies, karate belts or whatever successes they have enjoyed.
Children can choose to bring sandwiches to school or to buy a delicious hot school meal which is cooked on the school premises. Just the thing for busy children or on those chilly days.
From September 2014, we have opened our doors to Nursery aged children. This helps to create a smooth transition process, along with our new intake visiting sessions in the summer term before the children start their time with us at school when they are 4. The Nursery and Reception children share a classroom which caters to inside and outside play, learning about the world around them. Information regarding charges and grant funding is available through the School Office.
At the other end of the school, our Key Stage 2 children have a number of opportunities to meet the children they may go on to Secondary School with. In conjunction with the children from our partner school, Yardley Hastings Primary, children in Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to take part in an exciting and educational residential trip. The children also take part in activities at Wollaston School which is where most of the Year 6 children move to when they say their goodbyes to us at Denton, including sporting tournaments with other local schools. All of these experiences help to make the transition to Secondary School a smoother path.
So why not arrange a time to come and visit the school and see for yourself. We would love to welcome you.
