Safer Internet Day & Children's Mental Health Week

As you are probably aware from coverage in the press, Tuesday was Internet Safety Day. This was observed throughout the world as a means of celebrating the advantages of the internet alongside its dangers and potential risks to children. The theme for this year was 'All fun and games? Exploring Respect and Relationships on line.'

As part of my assembly, we watched a video on the theme of gaming and online communication and how to respond and interact appropriately. The link for this is as follows:

This website also has a very good section for parents with advice, guides and resources for keeping children safe on line:

We are currently updating our Online Safety Policy and will publish it on our school website shortly. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns about internet safety, there are a few people across both schools who you can get in touch with. You can obviously talk to your child's teacher but, more specifically, our Online Safety Lead alongside our Computing Lead. Both of them can offer help and advice and can signpost you to support if you need it.

We have also included activities relating to Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme of the week is ‘Growing Together’ which focuses on growing emotionally and finding ways to help each other grow. Mrs Gibson launched the initiative with an assembly earlier in the week.

If you would like to take part in some of the Mental Health activities at home, the following website is very good and has many free resources for families:

Global Theme Week- Education

A key aspect of our teaching involves our Global Curriculum. As part of our routine teaching and Global Focus weeks, the children learn about a variety of issues ranging from Social Justice and Equality to Sustainable Development. We encourage the children to think about what they have learnt, and then act upon it with a view to them becoming model Global Citizens in the future!

Our next Global Learning Week is just around the corner, and the focus this time will be on education and, in particular, education around the world and children’s entitlement to it. During this week, we will focus more on the Human Rights and Social Justice strands of our Global Curriculum as opposed of the Sustainable Development and environmental issues covered during the Water Week. Our pupils will experience learning with and without resources, and consider how educational experiences differ around the world.

The children and staff really enjoyed our Water Week activities, and we are very much looking forward to investigating education from a global perspective. I am sure that, once again, our pupils will be excited to share their thoughts and findings with their families!
